Medium: STEAM materials | Year: 2025 - present
STEAM Play is an ongoing series of STEAM activities for young learners to sculpt, weave, and sew while coding and tinkering. The work nods to play through its use of materials such as ribbons, pipe cleaners, and e-crafts.
The work is made in collaboration with my students and is supported by Code Ninjas Gowanus, an after-school franchise in Brooklyn, USA.
Muggu-Loops, floor drawings made by south-Indian women everyday
review by my student
Muggu (in Telugu) is a 5,000-year-old matrilineal practice of drawing floor patterns on dotted grids. Drawn at thresholds, they invite deities and ward off evil. Made with rice powder, they also feed ants and birds—“feeding a thousand souls.” I draw loops with embedded logic, using repetition to generate personal, political, and spiritual systems of belief.
